 FAQs

  • The preschool day is carefully crafted with your child's needs at the center. Students begin with a morning routine that involves exploration, Independent skill building opportunities and circle time. Teachers provide focused instruction and engaging activities aligned to the curriculum learning targets. Activities include independent and teacher-directed Literacy and Math centers, Science exploration opportunities, dramatic play, sensory exploration, outdoor play, music, dance, and much more. Each classroom will spend time learning about and practicing different social-emotional regulation skills to help students be successful problem solvers. Our teachers and staff are dedicated and passionate about serving the whole child each and every day.

In addition to our learning and exploration opportunities, Students will have snack time in their classroom daily.

  • The curriculum includes both structured and unstructured activities. District-selected curriculum is utilized within our program; Mother Goose Time for ages 3-4, and We Can Early Learning Curriculum for the Preschool classrooms. Each day is designed to follow a predictable routine in order to foster security and confidence as children are prepared for a successful transition into Kindergarten. Using a research-based and child-focused curriculum, we will provide your child with daily opportunities for early literacy, numeracy, and oral language development. The learning environment and interest areas are also set up to encourage exploration through hands-on developmentally appropriate activities. Each area of development; social, emotional, cognitive, and physical is considered through planned lessons and activities that support each child as they develop these skills.

  • The two biggest factors we consider as we develop classroom lists is your child's age, elementary school attendance area, developmental needs, and family input. We maintain early learning standards of no more than 10 students for 1 adult. Making our classes small and supportive.

  • Our preschool is 5 days a week because preschool is the focus of our instructional time. You may decide to bring your child for fewer days, however, we hope to see them 5 days a week. Aftercare enrichment offers a 4-day and 5-day option to meet your family's work schedule.

  • We have limited spaces for before-school care from 7:00am-8:00am, 5 days a week. Please inquire early as these spaces fill quickly. In addition, we offer aftercare enrichment from 12:00pm-5:00pm.

  • You are our most valued partner in your child's education and development. You will have clear, consistent, and frequent communication regarding your child and their classroom. Teachers send a weekly email with photos, learning targets, and highlights from the week. Teachers will invite you to participate in conferences twice a year to share the growth your child is making. Most importantly, you should expect your child to love coming to school!

  • This may be a big transition for your child. You may have concerns about your child's development, social skills, academic skills, or other lagging skills. Schedule a meeting with our coordinator to further discuss your concerns. You will likely be surprised by the partnership we develop to support your child's success. We strongly believe that this experience helps set the tone for your child’s entire academic experience and therefore we believe it is critical that your child feel valued, respected, and cared for, and develops a love for learning.

  • State and district policies have changed over the last several years. Retention, "red-shirting", or holding back children is highly discouraged. If this is something you are planning on doing, schedule a meeting with your elementary school principal first. It is very rare that children are retained. Instead, they are enrolled by their date of birth and not their prior experience.

It is also important to know that we have a lot of supports, resources, and strategies for helping to prepare your child for Kindergarten. It can be surprising how much children develop during these years. Have more questions about retention, please contact our program supervisor, Candice Henkin.
