important information
who can teach a class?
Anyone can teach a class, as long as they are passionate and knowledgeable. Community Education Instructors represent a wide variety of lived experiences and educational backgrounds. What makes an instructor more successful is thoughtful planning, passion for the class, and good communication. Our department is here to help you be successful. Ask questions and share information.
What kind of classes are desirable?
OCCE loves to host classes for all age groups, from birth to seniors. Classes that teach skills, explore interests, and/or connect participants with resources are highly desired. Our community loves to learn, grow, and play. We will help you think through time, location, and frequency. You don’t have to have all the answers. All you need is a good idea and passion to begin. We are here to help!
what type of training or documents do I need to be an instructor?
We have a few options for how we partner with you.
Volunteers: This is for instructors that do not require compensation for their time and wish their class to be offered free. We will have you go through our volunteer background check process at no cost to you. No additional documents or fees apply.
Vendors: This is for instructors that have their own businesses. We will create a contract with you regarding the financial responsibility of our partnership and require a current certificate of insurance.
OCCE Employee: This is for instructors that wish to teach, but do not have their own business. This process requires you to go through our formal hiring process.
